Deal Approves Bibles in State Parks

altGEORGIA - Governor Deal has ordered the Department of Natural resources to return Bibles to the state's parks lodges and cabins. WAGA-TV reports that the DNR removed the bibles after a guest expressed concern.

Athens Renews Parking with DDA

altATHENS - The Athens Downtown Development Authority voted Tuesday to renew its parking management agreement with Athens-Clarke County. According to the terms, 15 percent of gross revenues from parking will go to the DDA and 85 percent will go to local government.

GA Tech Starts Online Masters Program

altATLANTA - Georgia Tech announced that it will be offering a full online master's degree in computer science. The degree will cost 7,000 dollars, and will consist of 26 courses that are also freely available through the service known as Massive Open Online Courses.

Athens Increases 2014 Budget

altATHENS - Athens-Clarke County commissioners and the mayor added a little over $250,000 dollars to the 106 million dollar budget for the 2014 fiscal year. The changes include restoring Lyndon House funding to conduct tours of the facility.

No Names in Flea Market Arrests

altJACKSON COUNTY - 12 arrests were reported in connection with raid on the J and J Flea Market on Saturday, but the Jackson authorities aren't releasing any names or specific charges yet.

UGA Basketball Improves Academics

altATHENS - Basketball was one of thirteen UGA sports teams that improved or maintained their academic standing according to a report conducted by the NCAA. Men’s basketball made the biggest gain going up thirty points.

Athens Halts Booting of Cars

altATHENS - The practice of booting cars with unpaid parking tickets in Athens is being temporarily suspended due to a potential violation in due process. The Banner Herald obtained a leaked memo written by ACC attorney Bill Berryman.

Industrial Park Project Near Completion

altJEFFERSON - Jefferson officials are hoping that the completion of an industrial park project at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Galilee Church road will make the area much more business friendly.
