ATHENS - Athens tops the list of small communities in the nation for economic growth, according to Fourth Economy Consulting, a Pittsburgh-based firm.

FEC says the University of Georgia, the downtown entertainment scene and the area's booming healthcare industry helps Athens-Clarke county thrive in the modern economy.

Johnson County, Iowa, Warren County, Kentucky and Wood County, Ohio are among the other top ten small communities on the list.
