Increase in GA Revenues

altATLANTA - Georgia's state revenues increased 13 percent in April, compared with the same month a year ago. Gov. Nathan Deal said Wednesday that net revenue collections have so far totaled $14.1 billion for an increase of $808 million compared to the same point last year.

Job Expo for Veterans

altATHENS - Between 50 and 60 employers set up booths at the VFW building on Sunset Drive in Athens to talk with veterans  looking for work.  Robert Lane, a veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan and Japan got out of the service four years ago.

Barrow Not Running for Senate

altAUGUSTA - Democratic Rep. John Barrow says he won't be running for U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss's seat next year. Barrow's statement on Tuesday saying he will seek re-election to the seat in the House he has held since 2004.

GA Brewers Can Transport Beer

altATLANTA - Governor Deal signed a new bill into law allowing home brewers in Georgia are now allowed to transport their homemade beer to competitions. Previously brewers had to break the law if they wanted to compete.

Citizens Voice Dissent at ACC Meeting

altATHENS - The public input grew heated Tuesday night at the Athens Clarke County Commission meeting. The debate surround an ordinance, which wasn't even on the agenda, about the issue of restricting public use of government owned property on certain occasion.

Deal Signs Lobbyist Bill

altATLANTA - Legislation signed by Governor Nathan Deal will set limits on what lobbyists can spend on Georgia public officials. Lobbyists can currently spend as much as they want if they publicly disclose their spending.

Selig Increases Living Units

altATHENS - People hoping to move into downtown Athens area are likely pleased to hear about the revised plans for the Armstrong and Dobbs track on the east end of downtown. Developer Selig Enterprises is scaling back commercial space and planning for more living units.

Deal Signs Georgia Archives Bill

altATLANTA - Starting July 1, the Georgia Archives will be controlled by the University System of Georgia. According to the AJC, the Governor Deal signed a house bill that transfers control from the Secretary of State's office.
