Police Officer Injured in Accident

altATHENS - Senior police officer Kenneth Beavers was badly hurt Monday night when his motorcycle collided with a taxi cab near downtown Athens. Officer Beavers sustained a face injury, a broken leg, and a concussion.

Athens Police Urge Public Safety

altATHENS - The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has released some tips for residents when attending crowed events. They cannot give too many details about increased security measures, in the interest of not compromising those measures.

Gov. Signs College Credit Bill

altATLANTA - Governor Nathan Deal has signed House Bill 131 as an incentive to take dual credit courses and earn college credit. He says by year 2020, 60 percent of job openings in the state will require post-secondary education.

Earth Day Event at Botanical Gardens

altATHENS - Georgia Review's annual Earth Day event will be held at the State Botanical Garden's Day Chapel at 7 p.m.  Award-winning essayist and conservationist Scott Russell Sanders will present a new essay called "Near and Distant Bears."

Air Traffic Controllers on Furlough

altATLANTA - Federal budget cuts mean furloughs for air traffic controllers beginning this Sunday. That mean flight delays of three hours or more in Atlanta as well as other major airports.

Star System Named After UGA

altATHENS - NASA names a star system after UGA. In 2012 NASA'S Keplar mission was the first to find earth-sized planets, and they found 3 new planets in the star system called Kepler-37.

altATHENS - UGA President Michael Adams says its a complicated road ahead for the university to get completely away from burning coal.  President Adams says that UGA burn a whole lot less coal then they used to.
