Athens Increases 2014 Budget

altATHENS - Athens-Clarke County commissioners and the mayor added a little over $250,000 dollars to the 106 million dollar budget for the 2014 fiscal year. The changes include restoring Lyndon House funding to conduct tours of the facility.

No Names in Flea Market Arrests

altJACKSON COUNTY - 12 arrests were reported in connection with raid on the J and J Flea Market on Saturday, but the Jackson authorities aren't releasing any names or specific charges yet.

UGA Basketball Improves Academics

altATHENS - Basketball was one of thirteen UGA sports teams that improved or maintained their academic standing according to a report conducted by the NCAA. Men’s basketball made the biggest gain going up thirty points.

altATHENS - The practice of booting cars with unpaid parking tickets in Athens is being temporarily suspended due to a potential violation in due process. The Banner Herald obtained a leaked memo written by ACC attorney Bill Berryman.

Industrial Park Project Near Completion

altJEFFERSON - Jefferson officials are hoping that the completion of an industrial park project at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Galilee Church road will make the area much more business friendly.

UGA Names Dean for Engineering School

altATHENS - Donald Leo, a Virginia Tech administrator, will be the first permanent dean of UGA's new college of engineering. Leo is currently a professor of mechanical engineering and executive director at Virginia Tech's National Capital Region operations.

altATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Corrections has agreed to give the Southern Center for Human Rights 1,000 pages of documents after the group sued them.

UGA Helps Farmers in Afghanistan

altATHENS - Scientists with UGA helped instruct volunteers on the Georgia National Guard going to help farmers in a northern region of Afghanistan. The Agribusiness Development Team is going to instruct Afghan farmers.
